BOSTON MBTA General Manager Richard Davey on Monday blamed subway delays during stormy weather this year on aging equipment.
The oldest cars, on the Orange and Green Lines, suffered the most delays. The Blue Line, with cars ordered just four or five years ago, had few delays in the cold.
Davey says few buses broke down, but they had to overcome a different obstacle.
“And the No. 1 problem that we’ve had with buses this winter is really the snow banks that have been creeping into the street and making it more difficult to maneuver,” Davey said.
Davey says the T is taking over snow clearance at bus stops on the most-traveled routes, such as Blue Hill Avenue.
He says the No. 1 complaint from riders is that information about delays on commuter trains came late. He says the T fell down on that issue and promises more timely information going forward.
The transit agency took possession of two new locomotives for the commuter rail Monday.
