Wendy Schwartz

Producer, On-Air Promotions and Fundraising, WBUR

Wendy Schwartz joined WBUR in 2004, after working for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Prague for eight years. At RFE/RL, she trained more than 400 journalists from over 30 countries in radio journalism and production — from writing for radio and using music, to gathering audio clips and individual voice coaching.

Wendy started in broadcasting at WMBR-FM, MIT’s community radio station, where she wrote and reported news, learned audio engineering, and created the children’s radio program “Rainbow Tales.” She went on to WGBH-FM as an announcer and then associate producer of the nationally broadcast radio drama series, “The Web.”

After her brother, a creative type, convinced her to produce radio and TV commercials, she worked with award-winning teams at ad agencies, such as Emerson Lane Fortuna and Ingalls Quinn & Johnson. Before joining RFE/RL in Prague, she produced television commercials for multi-national companies eager to establish themselves in the Czech Republic.

Wendy earned her BA in English magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, at SUNY Buffalo and got her masters in English at UC Santa Barbara on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. Before her segue into broadcasting, she taught English in Needham. So far, she has bicycled in 13 countries.
